WHAT IS THE TIGHTEST FIVE?
Maine Event Comedy’s Tightest Five contest is open to comedians (ages 21+) who would like to perform their best five minutes of original material in a contest setting.
Contestants will have a shot at winning some great prizes aimed at furthering their comedy career. At this time, the grand prize includes paid spots, professional headshots, and craft beer.
OK, so beer may not make you a better comedian, but it could assist in celebrating a victory.
All Tightest Five contest rounds will take place at Bear Bones Beer, 43 Lisbon St., Lewiston, Maine.
Admission is free, so come out and laugh with some of New England’s rising comedy stars!

WHAT’S THE ENTRY FEE?

BUT I HATE COMEDY CONTESTS
I hear you. I’ve participated in a bunch of contests and none are perfect. I’ve made the finals in some and got bumped in the first round in others. Heading home early or not, I’ve left each event with valuable lessons, memories, and friendships. Too sappy? Yeah, maybe. But it’s the truth. If you really hate comedy contests, don’t enter; but please come support your fellow comics.
HOW MANY CONTESTANTS?
20 comedians will enter the contest. If an entrant cannot make their preliminary date, the 21st comedian to register will be called, and so on. No additional comedians will be added after the preliminary rounds.
WHAT’S THE FORMAT?
The Tightest Five will be part of MEC’s Third Thursday Series at Bear Bones Beer and the lineup will be drawn at random. The contest will begin at 7pm followed by a featured comedian and open-mic, so feel free to hang out if you’d like to do more time.
- December 21: Preliminary Round One – 10 Comedians, 5 Advance to Semi-finals
- January 18: 10 Preliminary Round Two – 10 Comedians, 5 Advance to Semi-finals

HOW ARE WE JUDGED?
Two individual judges and the audience will make the call. Your goal should be to prepare and perform your absolute best five minutes of original material. You will be judged on the strength, structure, and delivery of your set. As you approach the stage, prepare to release the Kraken.
I SUBMITTED. HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M IN THE CONTEST?
